My Top 5 Reasons to Travel Far & Often With Your Children

Updated: Jul 17, 2019

Hi Friends!

I'm back in the office this morning after arriving home around 3:30am after a longggg day of travel. So tired but so filled with gratitude for our amazing trip to the Greek Islands and all the love shared and memories made. (Will be sharing my favorite spots very soon!)

I’ve had lots of people make comments that we’re brave to travel internationally with our two littles, and I guess in some ways we are brave. But what we risk by traveling to far away distances (late nights, messed up sleep schedules, babies crying on airplanes 😵 etc etc) is so worth it to me when I see the wonder through my children’s eyes when they're getting to know new places and people. I have really seen tremendous growth in Johnny every time we’ve taken him to see a new part of the world. Traveling with your kiddos benefits them in more ways than I could tell.

Here are my top 5 reasons to travel far and travel often with the kiddos —

  1. Make them citizens of the world! The most interesting people I’ve ever meet have unique perspectives through understandings of different cultures and what they like or dislike about them.

  2. Expose them to new cuisines! Picky eaters can’t really be so picky when their normal chicken tenders and French fries aren’t featured on the menu.

  3. Expose their brains to diverse languages! You’d be stunned how quickly they pick up, John’s Greek pronunciations we’re better than mine every time.

  4. Build their confidence & independence. Johnny rolls his own bag through giant airports, onto ferry’s, busses and trains. He holds his own tickets and feels so proud checking in at the gate for flights like a grown up.

  5. Increase their tolerance for discomfort! It’s our instinct as parents to want our kids to be comfortable all the time in safe familiar environments and regular schedules. But how much does that really benefit them? Is your life as an adult the same all the time? Isn’t it a huge life skill to be adaptive??

So there you have it! My top 5 reasons to travel and #bringthekids
