Cleaning Up My Skincare Routine
Thanks but no thanks toxic chemicals!
I have known the importance of natural and organic foods for a long time and over recent years we have transitioned to buying primarily organic food items ... But recently I've started thinking more about not only what I put in by body, but also what I put ON it. I am a cosmetic and skin care junkie & I always want the latest cream or makeup to play with!
I started to do some more research and came across a fantastic resource from the Environmental Working Group. Their site www.ewg.org scores the safety of ingredients in thousands of cosmetic and wellness products. I have to say I was SHOCKED by how harmful some of my old favorite products were. Especially my skincare - lotions, face wash, toners, etc. My whole lineup of skincare products all contained things like carcinogens, immunotoxic substances, allergens, even chemicals that could harm my reproductive system and throw my hormones out of whack! Yikes!
I knew I needed to find some safer alternatives, but to be honest I was pretty skeptical about how effective natural skincare and cosmetics would be.
SO, I have begun my quest of switching out the toxic beauty products in my house for good, natural and healthy products -- and let me tell you, it’s a big task. It takes a lot of time, patience and, let’s be real, $money$. Trying all kinds of new products and seeing if they work over a period of time can be frustrating because I often wonder if I'm even these products long enough to see any results.
I wanted to share these products with you sooner, but I really want to use them for awhile and make sure that they actually work before I rave about them .
In my searches for cleaner skincare I came across a company that I had heard great things about, but had never tried, called Derma E. They are a beauty and skincare company that is based in Southern California and have become the largest natural facial-care brand in the country. Their products are 100% vegan, cruelty-free, free of parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, petrolatum, mineral oil, artificial colors, gluten, soy and GMOs. The products are also dermatologist tested & recommended. All of their products contain the most potent natural antioxidants and targeted vitamin solutions to ensure that they deliver incredible results without using harmful chemicals.
They have a huge range of products available, and you can shop their site by skin concern or target specific active ingredients. I decided to try out their entire Vitamin C skincare regimen and see if their products were really worth all of this hype. I knew that Vitamin C is a huge skincare trend right now as its been shown to help support collagen production, brighten skin and it is a powerful antioxidant that can help reverse and prevent sun damage (so needed for me as a Floridian). I was pleasantly surprised by the price range because we all know how ridiculously priced some skincare can be.
So after a month of daily use, mornings & nights, I have to say I am SOLD. This line is really awesome. The cleansing wipes leave my face feeling super clean, the serum is super luscious and the moisturizer leaves me feeling hydrated but not greasy. The line also comes with a peel which I have been using once per week for a deeper exfoliation and I have seen that really helping some darker sun damaged spots on my face.
Check out some of the Derma E products yourself! I hope maybe this post can inspire you to make the transition to clean & natural beauty and wellness products. Take care of yourself and look gorgeous doing it!
